Manila, Philippines, 14 February 2024 - Quisumbing Torres is delighted to announce the appointment of Alain Charles J. Veloso as the assistant head of the firm's Corporate & Commercial/M&A Practice Group (CCPG).
Alongside his new role, Charles also heads the firm's Capital Markets Group and the Financial Institutions Industry Group. He also participates in other initiatives of Baker McKenzie International of which Quisumbing Torres is a member firm. He is a member of Baker McKenzie's Asia Pacific (AP) Antitrust & Competition, Capital Markets, Insurance, and Private Equity communities, and AP Data Center Taskforce.
With almost two decades of experience in the industry, Charles has consistently demonstrated his skills and dedication to his practice. His ability to navigate complex challenges, foster strong relationships with clients, and inspire colleagues has made him an invaluable asset to the firm.
Charles is also active in the firm's corporate social responsibility initiatives. He heads the firm's Inclusion, Diversity & Equity, and B-Green committees. He is currently the treasurer of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Makati Chapter, and currently serves as the chairperson of its Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
Charles is a multi-awarded lawyer with recognitions from leading legal directories in the areas of antitrust and competition, capital markets, and corporate and M&A. He has been recognized as a Leading Individual for Capital Markets in 2020 to 2024, and Antitrust and Competition in 2024 by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific. He was also cited as one of the leading competition lawyers by Who's Who Legal: Southeast Asia 2022 to 2023 - Competition edition, and WWL’s Future Leader for Competition in 2022 to 2023. Charles studied law at the UP College of Law (cum laude and class valedictorian) and EU competition law at the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2017. He is also a certified public accountant.
Charles will support Maria Christina Macasaet-Acaban, partner and head of the CCPG practice. He will play a key role in overseeing the CCPG's operations, ensuring the highest standards of work delivery, and driving strategic initiatives to enhance our people and client experience.
